What's the crime like?

It’s hot, Plan 45-60 min to drive anywhere at off times. High Traffic times much longer. The roads commission DO NOT understand local business access for cars. FORCED RIGHT when you need left w No u turn for a mile before you can go the other way and that’s off you use right into a subdivision then turn around and not can make a legal left. UGH!!! The streets are painted but don’t make sense bc U can’t see them during busy traffic and usually don’t matter anyway.

One thing to add for those moving here to FL. Most, if not all those moving here will rent. Rental prices are expensive in major city areas around FL and will increase year over year by upwards of $200. Average I've been seeing is $100 per month in increase rents. This is due to market rates. You see these nice apartment complexs but don't see that they too are taking the hit for the rise In Insurance cost and therefore offset it to the renters. Not to mention, the free market that they have here where the state doesn't have any laws for landlords to stop the rise of higher rents. So be prepared. This is one of the reasons people leave because they ultimately can't afford it. You will get sucked into deals that apartment complex offers, but that's for just your 1st year. After, you will pay a lot more come renewal time. FL can be a dream or a nightmare for some and when all settled in, don't think you're on an extended disney or beach vacation here. Reality will settle in and you will soon realize that with work and day to day life, those dreams of living here don't seem to look like when you initially moved here. But I guess that can happen anywhere you move to. Just remember that you are in a one way in and one way out state. Meaning if you evacuate during a major hurricane, so is everyone else and you will sit on the highways going 10MPH all the way until you get out into Alabama or Georgia where you have options to travel to other places.

My husband and I are runners. What are The Best Areas either near running trails or with enough non-urban sidewalk options? Cost of living isn’t really a factor, and husband works from home so commute isn’t either. Near the beach would be a plus!

I've lived in the Clearwater area for 37 years now and have seen a lot of changes. But, the change we've seen here since 2010 is "mind-blowing"! Everybody is moving here and every patch of land is getting built on. Like going to the beaches, you'll have to learn to enjoy the traffic in getting there. Same with Disney World. I use to drive from my home in Clearwater to Disney World in an hour and 30 minutes............... try that now! And even worse than the over-population is the cost of Auto Insurance, Homeowners Insurance, Property Taxes and Energy (Electric). That alone is going to force a lot of people living on a fixed income out of the State of Florida. Florida is NOT an affordable State to live in as it once was.....

Curious if you did anything to get your insurance rates that low such as hurricane clips for the roof, impact windows, or anything else?

As a guy from Chicago. I been going to Tampa for a few months at a time the last few years. I can’t think of one complaint! It will be my home soon

20 yrs ago Florida sucked for education Moved in 03 and moved to Ma. My son was 3 yrs behind in school and had to go to summer school and still was held back a year Florida is definitely behind in school compared to Ma.

Lived in Florida for 16yrs Went back last April to visit family in oldsmar Tampa My brother in law has a beautiful multi million home in a gated community In the community it’s quite and nice Big problem when you need to get something there is no convenient store like in New England You have to get out in the traffic and it’s insane Us 19 is crazy The parking lots are crazy Seen a dispute in the parking lot over a lady loading her van from the side instead of the rear Florida is out of control and people have no respect for others So sad Glad I don’t live there or at least that area Actually can retire and looking at brooksville or Ocala Would have been there already but Biden destroyed the country so my plans are on hold for now

Lived in Clearwater and Tampa’s traffic is like a Sunday drive compared to here in the DMV (DC/MD/VA). Everything else is definitely on point

I don’t regret moving here, but I’m going to move again and think it’s much better for vacationing than living.

year round BRUTAL humidity and heat 9+ months a year. CANT DO ANYTHING OUTSIDE…The Gulf water and beaches just STINK… Red Tide..Winter has turned into Summer 9-10 months. Just miserable. We’d NEVER move here again. It is NOT anything like the Tourist posters. Not even close. Hazardous place to live.

If people want great public schools, they must pay for it; which means high property taxes and state income tax, but I get it, a place with a lot of retirees don’t want to pay those.

Poor planning and construction are the reason..heading south on 275 and exiting east to I 4 is one lane.....though freeway remodeling has happened many times...yet one exit lane to this day is exactly the same since before 1975....one lane...who ever they paid to remodel that interchange totally was incompetent...downtown has become focused yet not enough parking or exits and entrances to the freeway.

You didn't mention healthcare. It's not good. It was much better 5 years ago (also when we moved here), but as an example, my daughter was supposed to be admitted to Tampa General late Thursday night early Friday morning. She was taken from a freestanding TG ER to the main TG campus. It's now Saturday early afternoon. She's being discharged without ever leaving the corridor of a pod off the ER. Wow. And this is Tampa's "best" hospital. As for doctors, there are many, but so so many of them are really bad. You MUST read patient reviews before seeing anyone. We've had multiple bad experiences, including a failed simple hernia repair. And regional hospitals (like Brandon, near us) are absolutely terrible. I love a lot about living here, but my family has many health issues, and this is making me want to move.

I am thinking about moving to Clearwater Florida when I leave college because it's my favourite place to one day to live in Clearwater Florida to live there, to work there and to have a lot of fun there!!

My family and I are thinking about moving there from NC. What town/neighborhood can you recommend that has that smaller town feel, close community, but ride around everywhere on a golf cart? Looking to be 30 minutes or less to the beach.

Florida waters hit 100 degrees so don't expect to cool off at the beach . Another fun fact or nut so fun Florida has approximately 93,000 police officers not incudihg the other departments. I moved to Tampa in 2003 all of my experiences with law enforcement have been negative .

I’ve lived in the Tampa Bay Area for almost 20 years, purchased our home in 2015. Our home owners and auto insurance have tripled, every year we get increases. Our property taxes have doubled. I love how you described our area in almost all points but the reality is that our state is degrading and residents are being priced out of paradise. Track home communities are destroying wetlands and the wooded areas, pushing all wildlife out. The community we once had is no longer due to all of the growth you stated.

The Florida heat and bugs are absolutely disgusting and unbearable
